Targeted EHCP Outcomes Interventions

In a targeted EHCP Outcomes 1:1 session with a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) student, the aim is to work directly towards the outcomes outlined in the student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) through individualized support. These sessions are typically planned and delivered by a teacher, TA (Teaching Assistant), SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), or other specialist staff.

Here’s what is usually achieved in these sessions:

🎯 Progress Towards EHCP Outcomes

  • Direct focus on the student's specific EHCP outcomes (e.g., improving communication, emotional regulation, independence, or academic targets).

  • Activities are customized to match the student's current ability level, often broken down into smaller, manageable steps.

🧠 Tailored Learning Support

  • Use of specialist strategies, e.g., visual aids, sensory tools, social stories, or specific phonics programs.

  • Helps students access the curriculum in a way that works for them.

📈 Ongoing Assessment and Feedback

  • Staff can monitor the student's progress closely and make adjustments to strategies or targets as needed.

  • Regular feedback is given to the student in a way they can understand, helping them feel motivated and involved.

🤝 Build Confidence and Independence

  • 1:1 support helps to build a safe, trusting relationship which can boost the student’s confidence.

  • Students are encouraged to develop independence skills, both academically and socially.

🗣️ Support Communication and Interaction

  • Targeted support for students with speech, language, or social communication needs.

  • Practicing turn-taking, asking for help, expressing emotions, etc.

❤️ Promote Wellbeing and Emotional Regulation

  • Sessions might include emotional check-ins, mindfulness activities, or strategies for managing anxiety or behaviour.

  • Emotional literacy work may support better self-awareness and regulation.
